BONE COLLECTOR
by Dee-Kay
This is a very entertaining and intriguing film. Much of its appeal for me is the focus on police forensics. Denzel Washington is very convincing as paralyzed forensics hotshot, Lincoln Rhyme, who has all but given up on life, then unexpectedly gets to be in charge again. He "comes back to life" with a commanding presence while running a forensics investigation on serial murders from his bed. Angelina Jolie, as a rookie with forensic talents, gives a solid performance as the investigator on the scene, with Rhyme's ever-present voice in her ear. Queen Latifah, in a small but important role, is very effective as Rhyme's live-in nurse and sassy companion. I was truly drawn into this story and the whodunit suspense. But, I was really disappointed when I didn't recognize the killer in the climactic scene. Was the character too obscure in the beginning to remember or did I not pay enough attention? Either way, this "blew" the payoff of the surprise for me.
