LOS ANGELES, CA June 1, 2009 – Fox Searchlight Pictures' Chief Operating Officers Stephen Gilula and Nancy Utley announced that principal photography on FAMILY WEDDING PROJECT (WORKING TITLE) began today in Los Angeles. Starring Academy Award® winner Forest Whitaker (THE LAST KING OF SCOTLAND), Emmy Award® winner America Ferrera (“Ugly Betty”), Carlos Mencia (“Mind of Mencia”), Lance Gross (“House of Payne”), Regina King (“Southland”), Anjelah Johnson (ALVIN AND THE CHIPMUNKS: THE SQUEAKQUEL) and Fred Armisen (“Saturday Night Live”) with Rick Famuyiwa (BROWN SUGAR, THE WOOD) writing and directing the film. In this clash-of-cultures comedy, two overbearing dads must put aside their differences to plan the wedding of their son and daughter in less than two weeks.

“Rick has created a hilarious, touching, and vibrant family comedy, and it is very exciting to be working with him again," said Claudia Lewis, Fox Searchlight Pictures President of Production. “It is thrilling to have attracted this wonderful and diverse cast. We are so proud to be making a film that is original, multicultural and speaks to a universal experience in a very contemporary way.”

“Our film is a celebration of two unique American cultures. However, it's the universal celebration of love and family that makes this a story that anyone can relate to and enjoy,” said Famuyiwa. “It's a privilege to be working with such a diverse, talented group of actors and an incomparable crew.”

The film will be released by Fox Searchlight in 2010. The film is being produced by Steven J. Wolfe and Edward Saxon. Zola Mashariki, Senior Vice President of Production, and DanTram Nguyen, Creative Executive, are overseeing the project.
