Synopsis: An African American counterpart to the wildly popular teen reality show “Laguna Beach,” BET’s sexy, sassy BALDWIN HILLS: THE COMPLETE FIRST SEASON goes behind closed doors in one of Los Angeles’ most exclusive communities for a real-life look at what it means to be young, fabulous and black. In an upscale neighborhood that attracts professional athletes, TV and movie stars, entrepreneurs, doctors, lawyers, engineers and their families, these kids may hit the legendary So Cal beaches and high end malls in mom and dad’s luxury cars, but the rivalries and romances of high school will always transcend economics. From hardworking scholars to hard partying slackers, the young Angelenos split their time between school, socializing and family life in a world where money may not buy everything, but it does make navigating the rocky terrain of adolescence a little more interesting.

Featuring a cast that the New York Daily News calls "the real deal," the compulsively watchable first season follows the divas, jocks, drama queens and troublemakers of Baldwin Hills as they make decisions that will define their futures. Cultural differences between the teens of Baldwin Hills and their less affluent neighbors come to light in a show that The Washington Post calls "rich with reality." During one event packed year, BALDWIN HILLS: THE COMPLETE FIRST SEASON dishes up a whole lot of surprises for its cast, as relationships begin and end, friends are lost and one couple faces an unexpected pregnancy.

MEET THE CAST

The Tough Girl – Staci, 18,
currently not in school.

Charismatic and wise, Staci wears her feelings on her sleeve. She is street smart and growing up faster than she wants to. She says boys, “are like chocolate…I love ‘em all!” and she has a boyfriend for the first time this year. She went to Dorsey High School in Baldwin Village, an area of Los Angeles also known as “The Jungles.” Staci’s never been to Rodeo Drive, but she’d like to know the bus route. Close to her mother, she’s jealous of the attention Mom gives her older sister, with whom Staci no longer speaks. Staci provides a connection between the kids who live “up in the Hills” and those that live below the clouds.

The Real Deal – Moriah,16,
Junior at Crenshaw High School

A sweet, smart, popular kid with charm to burn and basketball skills to match, Moriah has lived up in the Hills his whole life. His mother works two jobs and his father, an ex-NBA player for the Clippers, the Bucks and the Warriors, is currently an analyst for Fox Sports. Moriah is well aware of the opportunities he’s been given. The kids at Crenshaw call him “anglo-cized” and think that he “talks proper”. After three weeks together, he thinks he’ll end up marrying his cheerleader girlfriend. The only three-sport athlete in his school with a 4.0 GPA, he’s often compared to his father, but he says “I’m going to be like myself.” Very competitive with his brother, who plays for UCLA, he’s an achiever in a family of achievers.

The Trophy Wife – Garnette, 17,
Senior at Archer School for Girls

She’s honest, outgoing, and loves to laugh. Garnette plays volleyball and basketball. People think she’s a bitch, especially at first glance, but “that’s something I’m working on.” She aspires to be a marketing CEO. Garnette says she’s the “mother” of the group, “who basically says what needs to be said.” She just broke up with her boyfriend and is single for the first time in four long months. She and Makenzy sometimes clash over boys, because available black boys are scarce at their private school. She is hoping to go to South Africa in the spring to work in a battered women’s shelter.

The Entrepreneur – Jordan, 18,
Freshman at Santa Monica Community College

Funny, independent and endearing, Jordan has already started his own business –ClubAccess where “kids throw parties for kids.” His mother is a school psychologist and pushes him hard. Jordan was more or less raised by his uncles, who are all businessmen and taught him “what it is to be a man.” He sees his father only occasionally. All he knows is that his dad “builds satellites and ships them up to space.” He has a girlfriend but worries that he’s “not the boyfriend type.” While Jordan knows he’s privileged, he also says he “makes things happen” for himself.

The Model – Gerren, 16,
Junior at Malibu High

A teen beauty who describes herself as “dorky,” Gerren has appeared on the cover of countless teen magazines, plus Italian Vogue and Elle. Oprah calls her the “Mini Naomi” and she’s the focus of an upcoming documentary called “America the Beautiful.” Nearly a year ago, her best friend was murdered at Denny’s in the “Jungle” over a necklace. Her mom used to be a model too and now is very hands-on with Gerren’s career. They all live with her grandfather, who’s rehabbing from a stroke. Gerren is the only black girl on her volleyball team. She wants to start her own clothing line and is very aware that she is a “kid with an adult job.” She’s currently dating a boy she met at church, but over the past two months, both Gerren and her boyfriend have cheated on each other.
The Socialite – Ashley, 16, Junior, Brentwood High

Ashley’s smart and outgoing with a sense of entitlement. She loves to have fun and is very social. She considers herself brave and isn’t “afraid to go for things.” A dancer for the past 14 years, Ashley is currently enrolled in the Debbie Allen Dance Academy and hopes to one day dance professionally. She hates “unnecessary drama,” but always finds herself “in the middle of it.” Although she has a good relationship with her parents, she resents their constant intrusion into her life. Her mother, a popular TV and film actress, says Ashley is currently dating “below herself,” but Ashley wants to hear none of this. She knows she’s spoiled but also tries to give back as much as she can…when she can. Ashley went to Africa last year and found the experience very moving and enlightening. She has a HUGE dance competition in April and says “that’ll answer a lot of questions for me.”

The Clown – Daymeon, 19,
Currently not in school

Daymeon is all about Ralph Lauren. Very popular, the self-proclaimed “funny-man” of Baldwin Hills plans on someday owning a broccoli-colored Lamborghini. For now, he works at Macy’s so he can get Polo at a discount. Daymeon is trying to “figure things out” before he goes back to school, probably Santa Monica Community College. He once dreamed of being pro basketball or ping pong player, but now admits, he “might need a plan B.”

The Prez – Gaven, 16,.
Junior at Harvard-Westlake

Calm, cool and collected, Gaven considers himself to be “one cool cat.” He’s President of his class, plus a starter on the varsity basketball team at a prestigious private school. He plays the viola and wants to go to Columbia or Boston College—if he doesn’t get recruited. He gets along well with his parents and really looks up to his Dad. His mother was a professional dancer, traveled the world and was in several music videos. She is the strict one and stays on top of him. Not really looking for a girlfriend…yet. He plans on visiting colleges in the spring.

The Good Girl – Roqui, 17,
Junior at City Honors High

Roqui is very driven. Because she holds herself in high regard, people think she’s snobby. She’s passionate about basketball and wants to play through college then become a news anchor. Her father is a former NBA star. He played for 14 years and is now the head coach at New Mexico State. She says her relationship with her mom is “perfect.” Her friends say she’s “the mom” and “the nun” of the group. People come to her for advice. She is ambivalent about boys because “they are never as serious about things.”

The Trouble Maker – Makenzy, 17,

Senior at Archer School for Girls

Outgoing, funny and fearless, Makenzy feeds off other people’s energy. She speaks her mind and loses a lot of friends that way. “I don’t know how to censor myself.” Makenzy’s dad is the Postmaster of Los Angeles; her mom is an interior designer. Dad is all about being social, but mom is strict and can be all business. Her house is a social hub, but she finds the private school world to be too small and is always trying to keep “the family out of the loop.” Makenzy’s got a few boys in the mix, and wants her final year in high school to be fun more than anything else.

The Bad Boy – Sal

Originally from Watts, Sal is a reformed bad boy. He was arrested, and his uncle, who lives in Baldwin Hills, came to the rescue. His uncle used to be in gangs as well, and is mentoring by example, hoping Sal will turn his life around. In return, Sal has turned to mentoring kids. He's in his freshman year of community college and is an aspiring rapper. He also aspires to be an engineer.
