Columbia and Overbrook Entertainment will test out "Newton's Law" as the next project for Jaden Christopher Syre Smith, son of Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith.
Eight-year-old Smith, who starred alongside his father in Sony's "The Pursuit of Happyness," his first feature role, is attached to play a precocious inventor trapped in a science center during a field trip. Tyro scribe Carolyn Brooks wrote the screenplay.
Prior to screenwriting, Brooks worked as a visual effects artist on such films as "Garfield," "The Chronicles of Riddick," "Ice Princess" and "The Chronicles of Narnia: the Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe." Overbrook, which also produced "ATL" last year, starts production on "Lakeview Terrace," starring Samuel L. Jackson, in mid-June.
Brooks is managed by Jai Khanna at Brillstein/Grey and repped by Ken Freimann at William Morris.
Jaden Smith is managed by Miguel Melendez of Overbrook Entertainment and repped by Nicole David at William Morris.
