The New York Film Critics Online has chosen Forest Whitaker, and Jennifer Hudson amongs its winners.

The New York Film Critics Online (NYFCO) announced their 2006 awards today at O'Neal's Restaurant in the Upper West Side in Manhattan.

Stephen Frears' The Queen received five awards including for Best Picture, Actress for Helen Mirren, Supporting Actor for Michael Sheen, and nods for its screenplay and direction. Forest Whitaker won the Best Actor award for his role as Idi Amin in The Last King of Scotland, and Little Miss Sunshine received two awards, one for debut directors Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris and another for its ensemble cast. Newcomer Jennifer Hudson of Dreamgirls also won two awards, for Breakthrough Performer and Supporting Actress, which was shared with Catherine O'Hara of For Your Consideration. Neil Burger's The Illusionist won two technical awards for Cinematography and Film Score.

Humanitarian Award - Deepa Mehta (Water) for taking risks to create films about the difficulties of social change in India especially as it affects women.
