Andre Benjamin will co-star with Will Ferrell in "Semi-Pro," a basketball comedy from New Line Cinema. Former New Line exec Kent Alterman is making his directorial debut on the pic.

Written by Scot Armstrong, the story is set in the world of the American Basketball Assn. and follows Jackie Moon (Ferrell), the owner-coach-player of the fictional Flint Michigan Tropics. Moon must lead his team on a desperate attempt to make it to the big leagues.

Benjamin plays a self-styled ladies' man who is the best player on the team.

Woody Harrelson already has been cast.

New Line's Toby Emmerich and Cale Boyter will oversee the project.

Benjamin, who is shooting Stuart Townsend's "Battle in Seattle," is the co-creator of Cartoon Network's "Class of 3000" and is one of the voices in the upcoming family movie "Charlotte's Web." Benjamin's band, OutKast, received two Grammy nominations Thursday for songs on their "Idlewild" album.

Benjamin is repped by WMA and Miller & Pliakas.
