28 WEEKS LATER casting news Six months after the rage virus has annihilated the British Isles, the US Army declares that the war against infection has been won, and that the reconstruction of the country can begin. In the first wave of returning refugees, a family is reunited -- but one of them unwittingly carries a terrible secret. The virus is not yet dead, and this time, it is more dangerous than ever. Juan Carlos Fresnadillo first earned a following with Spanish audiences when he was nominated for an Academy Award in 1997 for his black-and-white comedy short film Esposados, which went on to win 40 national and international awards. In 2002, Fresnadillo won Spain's prestigious Goya Award for Best New Director for Intacto, a Sogecine production starring Max Von Sydow and Leonardo Sbaraglia. "I am thrilled to be working on my first English language film alongside such an exciting international cast and talented production team. London provides me with all the elements to make an extreme horror film," says director Fresnadillo. "28 Weeks Later" will be shot by Director of Photography Enrique Chediak (Down in the Valley). Production designer Mark Tildesley (The Constant Gardener), costume designer Jane Petrie (The Lives of the Saints), make up designer Konnie Daniel (Enduring Love), and editor Masahiro Hirakubo (Trainspotting) will be joining Fresnadillo's creative team.
