THE GOSPEL PREMIERE September 24, 2005 - The Rialto Atlanta, GA USA


On Saturday, September 24, 2005, the premiere for The Gospel was held at The Rialto in Atlanta, Geaorgia. While the city is not condusive for traffic, many celebrities and Atlanta's finest attended the glorious event. Celebrities on hand included Director Rob Hardy along with his Rainforest Films partners, Will Packer and Bernard Bronner, Boris Kodjoe and his wife, Nicole Ari Parker and their daughter, Sophie Tei-Naaki Lee Kodjoe, Nona Gaye, Tamyra Gray, Clifton Powell, Omar Gooding, Aloma Wright, Keisha Knight Pulliam, Martha Munizzi, Sean Nelson, Dwayne Boyd, Radio Host of Atlanta's V-103 Frank Ski, Elise Neal, Chris Spencer, Cece Winans and her husband Alvin Love, Kelly Price, Main Ingredients singer Cuba Gooding with wife Shirley, Darryl "Chill" Mitchell, Monica, Pebbles and Former NBA Player Terry Cummings.

BET newsreporter Jacque Reid did cast interviews inside the theater. A prayer was given by Larry Tinsley and once the film was over, the audience was treated to a fabulous concert. Hosted by Anthony Anderson, performers included Mary Mary, Kelly Price, Martha Munizzi, Kiki Sheard, and to cap off the evening, Hezekiah Walker. Director Rob Hardy was given a key to the city by a representative for Major Shirley Franklin, who couldn't make the event.

 

"The Gospel" explores the inner-workings of a church. Told from the perspective of the pews, the film gives a realistic portrayal of people dealing with true life struggles and issues. Maestro Kirk Franklin helped set the tone by writing music for the film's performance sequences.Shot entirely on location in Atlanta, "The Gospel" stars Boris Kodjoe as a hot R&B recording artist who's at the top of his career, yet estranged from his family who are southern Christian leaders in his hometown church. When Kodjoe's character, David, learns that his father (Clifton Powell), the Bishop of their church is ill and near death, he returns home, only to discover that his childhood rival (Idris Elba) is poised to become his father's successor at the church and has married his cousin (Nona Gaye) as well. While being met with hostility from family members, David also discovers disloyalty within the music empire he is building - all while struggling to make peace with his family, God and himself.
