The System Within news

The System Within an independent urban film, to begin production on July 11, 2005 in New York City.

New York, June 17, 2005. The highly anticipated urban drama The System Within will begin shooting July 11, 2005 according to THE SYSTEM WITHIN FILM PRODUCTION, LLC (TSW) and Raging Nations Films.

Seasoned professional Hawthorne James ( The Five Heartbeats, Speed, Seven), Bryce Wilson ( Beauty Shop, Trois, Weekend Vibe) and newcomer EMI rap star Chingy (Right Thurr, Ballin' Baby) will lead cast members selected from a 2003 talent search.

Before others got on this unique casting bandwagon, TSW toured the nation by bus to audition thousands of talented but unknown actors, singer and dancers to participate in this first of a kind film project combining the skills of working professional with talented but un tested amateurs.

The project is the brainchild of Tariq Alexander, a former model tuned actor-producer who will make his film debut in The System Within. Alexander said "We wanted the real thing for this movie so we went on a grassroots expedition looking for talent outside of New York and Los Angeles. What we found was tremendous talent and phenomenal support base for our project. The beauty of it is that this can be a launching pad for may careers and a platform for addressing issues that touch us all."

The script is based on actual experiences of men who have been incarcerated, mostly for drug trafficking, under the federal conspiracy laws. Alexander said, "I'll never forget the young woman, I think in Ohio, who told me of her husband who had been arrested on a drug charge and he had never dealt drugs. He was fingered by someone, a friend. I heard similar stories everywhere we went to audition people. I knew as a Blackman and a a performance artist I had to do something."

Recently there has been a stepped up effort in the judicial system to review both mandatory sentencing and conspiracy laws. This film is seen by some activists as a new weapon in the arsenal.

Dale Resteghini, "The King of Urban Independent Cinema" will be directing.

Stay tuned for more groundbreaking news when the production begins recording the soundtrack for the film in late August. The film is schedules for release in the fall of 2005.
