Urbanworld Schedule and Information : Fest Opens with World Premiere of DRUMLINE; Closes with BARBERSHOP

New York, July 24, 2002 – The Urbanworld Film Festival announced today the roster of films that will be featured in the Sixth Annual Urbanworld Film Festival for 2002. Presented by HBO, this year's event will take place August 7-11, 2002 in New York City, New York at the Loews 34th Street Theater, the Loews State Theater in Times Square, the Magic Johnson Theater in Harlem, and the Directors Guild of America.

The Festival's program line-up includes the African-American, Latino and Asian Narrative Program, the International Shorts Program, the HBO Documentary Program, Panel Discussions, a live staged reading of the Screenplay Competition finalists, and the Actor's Spotlight with special guest Ice Cube. The announcement was made today by Joy Huang, executive producer of the Festival.

As previously announced, the Sixth Annual Urbanworld Film Festival will kick off with the world premiere of Twentieth Century Fox's DRUMLINE and close witha special screening of MGM's comedy BARBERSHOP, starring Ice Cube, Eve, and Cedric the Entertainer. Special screenings of Nick Broomfield's BIGGIE & TUPAC and Miramax's PAID IN FULL will also be shown.

Fifty additional independent films from around the world will screen during the five-day festival. The program will consist of 12 feature films and 28 shorts, including six World Premieres, three U.S. Premieres, two East Coast Premieres and five New York Premieres. The programs were selected from 115 dramatic, 112 documentary, and 220 short film submissions. Additionally, 210 screenplays were submitted for the competition in which five finalists have been selected.
