BLACK CINEMATIC VISIONS - A SALUTE TO MEMORABLE FILMS

For African-American women, gaining respect and appreciation on screen has been a challenge since the invention of the silver screen. In honoring memorable films that have helped to change the fabric of America through film, we would like to salute WAITING TO EXHALE, and director-actor, FORREST WHITAKER for bringing this box-office champ and cinematic vision to the screen. The world, for the first time, was able to see into the lives of the often mis-understood and definitely under appreciated black woman. What she feels, how she loves and most important how she always stays strong while faced with controversy. Undoubtedly, Terry McMillan deserves a special salute for writing such a wonderful story that touched the hearts of so many. The blackfilm.com crew salutes this achievement in cinema and literary genius.

Monster's Ball
Life is never an easy game to play with. Where you are, where you live, and what you do determines your outcome. For some, it may be filled with happiness, and for others, despair sets the tone. In Monster's Ball, the consequence of one brings together the lives of two tormented souls.
